Static Mesh issues

White lines on edge of mesh

By Sajon 3 years ago

Hey everyone,

I'm working on a map for a final major project at college and im having some issues with one of the main architectural meshes in the map.

the mesh is textured - Quite roughi n quality right now, but it gives general idea. It is uv mapped completely and there are no seams in the texturing.

HOWEVER When you move away from the mesh in game and in the editor, white flickering lines appear around the edge of the mesh. For no apparent reason.

when you move closer to the mesh these dissapear wether on foot or in a vehicle and I cannot seem to find out why.

Unfortunately my tutor, yes the guy that is Supposed to be teaching me has no idea either.

any suggestions?

this link will show the mesh and what is wrong.

Thanks

Slow time of the day, heh. :D

Could you perhaps show us the texture? Is the background of it white or transparent? I have no experience with Unreal, but I had a problem similar to this with a prop for Source. What I did to fix it was to extend the colour a bit more around each part of the uv map. Kinda hard to explain, but if you simply make the background of the texture purple (or the same colour as the parts) then that might fix it. If you need an image to show what I mean just ask.

Edit: I guess a sort of awkward way of explaining it is that the texture "zooms out" a bit as you move further away, like, it blends the nearby pixels. So if the parts are surrounded with white, it'll blend the white and you'll get those white seams.

Yea I thought the same when i first spotted it, and extended the material over the lines quite a bit, but still no change, and it is all perfectly aligned when you get up close to the model. it's just when you are far away that it appears.

After googling around for a bit it could be the mipmaps bleeding, although I don't get why it would be white if there's no white on the texture. Not really sure though, sorry. Tbh this isn't the best place for help with Unreal either, the modders here all seem to be more Source-based even though the site hosts skins for a ton of games.
